Workshop on Interoperability in Deliberative Tooling: Asia Regional

July 29, 2026 - August 1, 2026

Tokyo, Japan

Toda Peace Institute, in partnership with Metagov, will host a multi-day workshop in Tokyo in late July 2026 on advancing interoperability across and upgrades to democracy from deliberative technology platforms.

Builders of deliberative tools from ten countries across Asia will gather in Tokyo to (1) advance practices in security, privacy, identity, interoperability, data sovereignty, information integrity; (2) explore building with local cultural heritage and facilitation wisdom; (3) compare institutionalization pathways and the impacts of deliberative systems. Each attendee is collaborating with a social movement, peacebuilding effort, or government.

Japan’s leadership in deliberative democracy and Japan’s own innovation in deliberative engagements provide a strong setting for this convening. The workshop will bridge sectors, connecting open-source developers with practitioners working to widen civic space for collective intelligence and collective action. The outcome will be a strengthened global alliance dedicated to building a collaborative digital architecture for dialogue as a public good.

This workshop advances Toda’s long-term commitment to innovation in dialogue while positioning it at the forefront of global standards development for democratic digital infrastructure.
