Zhou Bo

Senior Colonel Zhou Bo (retired) is a senior fellow of the Center for International Security and Strategy at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He started his military service in 1979, serving in different posts in Guangzhou Air Force Regional Command and later in the General Planning Bureau of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense of China. He studied at Cambridge’s St Edmund’s College, was a visiting fellow at the Land Warfare Studies Centre of the Australian Army and pursued additional education at Harvard University, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) National Defense University, the PLA University of Science and Technology for the National Defense and the PLA Army Command College and also served as Director of the Centre for Security Cooperation in the Office for International Military Cooperation, Ministry of National Defense. Zhou Bo has published more than 180 op-eds in English, which formed a basis for his recent book Should the World Fear China? (Oxford: Hurst, 2025).
