New Technologies, Security and Peace

New Technologies, Security and Peace is a new theme for the Toda Peace Institute.

Today, technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnologies and nanotechnologies are changing military tactics and strategies. New military technologies are already challenging existing International Humanitarian Law, arms control and disarmament regimes.

The Toda Peace Institute’s programme on New Technologies, Security and Peace conducts research and organises meetings with experts, practitioners and policy makers on:

  • how new technologies impact peace and security, nationally, regionally and globally;
  • issues relating to the regulation of new weapons embracing new technologies;
  • issues relating to the regulation of dual use (civilian and military) technologies.
