Call for Papers - Dialogue For Peace

Call for Papers
Dialogue for Peace
Full Paper due by August 31, 2010

The Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research is seeking research contributions for publication in the Journal Peace & Policy on DIALOGUE FOR PEACE which may potentially be printed in book form and we aim to publish by the end of 2010. We are seeking papers already written, or in the throes of being written, that can reasonably be completed by the firm deadline of August 31, 2010. Papers received after August 31, 2010 or papers requiring extensive alteration, editing, or modification will not be considered under any circumstances, as each paper will be peer reviewed. The Institute will provide copyediting and proof reading for those papers selected for publication and an honorarium of US $300.00 will be paid upon publication to the author.

Exploration of the Theme:

This volume is dedicated to exploring the strengths, weaknesses, utility and significance of dialogical processes for building sustainable peace. It will explore the concept and reality of “dialogue” as a process for generating common meanings and shared understandings. It will also analyze the utility of dialogue for changing perceptions of conflict; enhancing processes of mutual accommodation, promoting higher levels of social and political integration and generating ripe conditions for social transformation. We are interested in the ways in which dialogical processes can prevent antagonistic polarization, marginalization and socio-political exclusion and can promote reconstruction, re-integration and reconciliation post-conflict. We are interested in research based papers (historical, empirical, qualitative, case studies) that explain how, why and whether dialogue is an alternative to violence and silence (with the intention to stimulate high level academic and policy debates about these issues). We are looking for well argued, empirically based papers that are both positive and skeptical about the values of dialogue at different stages of the peace building process in the Psycho-cultural, Socio-Economic and Socio-Political Domains.

Deadlines, Submission Guidelines, and Length:

To be considered for publication: Please submit a detailed abstract of your paper and bio (or curriculum vitae) by May 31, 2010. If your paper is selected we would like a full paper for peer review by: July 31, 2010. We would expect a response from reviewers and final changes to be made by the author for the final submission by: August 31, 2010. Your paper should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words. Call for Papers - Music For a Universal Consciousness of Solidarity

Call for Papers
Music for a Universal Consciousness of Solidarity
Full paper due by 15 April 2010

The Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research will publish a special issue of its journal Peace & Policy on the theme of “Music for a Universal Consciousness of Solidarity.” Peace & Policy #15 will be distributed to a distinguished group of scholars and organizations worldwide and may also be published as a book by Transaction Publishers.

Exploration of the Theme:

We selected the theme “Music for a Global Consciousness of Solidarity” to explore music's ability to bring the self and the other into a dialogue of solidarity. The goal is to call forth and to find ways in which music might promote a sense of universal consciousness and responsibility, so that all human beings, whoever and wherever they are, can become conscious of their common destiny. Faced with many dangers and obstacles, humanity must find common solutions to prevent and overcome them, and explore pathways that could lead us to a universal consciousness of our interconnectedness. We need this type of awareness to find such solutions without excluding diversity. What contributions can music make to reach these goals? How can ensure that our musicking serves and does not hinder these goals?

To be considered for publication by our review committee, an abstract and bio have to reach the Toda Institute by 15 January, and the full paper by 15 April 2010.

Call for Papers - Ethical Transformations for a Sustainable Future

Ethical Transformations for a Sustainable Future

The Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research is seeking contributions for publication in the book version of Peace & Policy 14: Ethical Transformations for a Sustainable Future which will be published in early 2010. We are seeking papers which are already written by authors seeking publication or papers which can be reasonably completed by the firm deadline of November 30, 2009. We will provide copyediting and proof reading for each paper selected for publicaiton and an honorarium of US $300.00 will be paid upon publication.

Exploration of the Theme:

It has become increasingly apparent that humanity’s complex social, political, and economic systems are incompatible with the finite capacity of the Earth to replenish resources and absorb wastes. If the planet is to continue to be habitable for us, our descendants, and for the myriad web of other creatures that make life possible, we must transform human systems so that they are aligned with natural systems.

But what is it, precisely, that we need to change? How do we change our behavior, and in which direction? Where do we start? We at the Toda Institute believe that ethical transformation is one of the most fundamental steps we can take to move toward sustainability. When we change how we see ourselves and our place in the universe, our actions and impacts necessarily change as well. When our relationships are altered through new understandings of how we relate and how we should relate, we find that those relationships may grow and become healthier. With the goal of sustainability, a healthy relationship with the Earth which sustains us and future generations, in mind, we seek to propose ethical transformation for a sustainable future.
